About the project
Walking through most neighborhoods in New York City, you will see rolling gates covered in stickers advertising various local businesses for the building owner to call should their shutter need repair. For the past few months I have collected and scanned as many different stickers as I could find, primarily from Brooklyn, Queens, and Lower Manhattan.
My guiding principles are the following:
- Stickers must be collected from the 5 boroughs of New York City
- A sticker is unique if and only if it has a different design from all other stickers, even if the difference is very subtle
- All unique sticker designs are collected, irrespective of aesthetic appeal
- No two stickers with identical design are collected, unless meaningfully differentiated by visually compelling damage.
This is a semi-published project, and may be expanded in the future.
